Outreach: Professional discussion groups & Patron information Two part assignment
As a professional in many occupations, you will encounter or be asked questions that you may not have a complete answer to. Many times, brainstorming with others in a similar position will help you organize your thoughts and present a better answer to your audience.
One way that library media specialists, often the only person in their school with that particular job, get support and feedback on professional issues or questions is LM_NET – a listserv* for school library professionals.


On the topic of Wikipedia, complete the following.

  2. Read the discussion thread regarding Wikipedia on LM_NET On the Web (LM_NET Archives)

    2. Type Wikipedia in search box
    3. Read 10-15 queries/responses that librarians have made about Wikipedia
  4. If, as you read, there are things that you don’t understand, post these on the LMC interns wiki.
  5. Finally (by 10/26 comment in the LMC intern Wiki on the topic: using Wikipedia for research. What did you learn from the threaded discussion? What surprised you? What do you think other students may not know about Wikipedia, but should be aware of?

Use Google Docs to create an information sheet on the pros and cons of using Wikipedia.
